Today, on a thursday, one of my few day off from work, after coming home from grocery shopping that didnt left me drained of my energy (despite the cold weather and heavy bags), I made.. Cheong!

This isn’t my first time, i had a go a few months back with strawberries and raspberries that were.. not in the best shape… to say the least. Now its a delicious syrup that fermented a little 🍹. Though Im no quite sure this was supposed to happen…

My chosen victims for this new experimentation (way cooler than saying cooking, plus, im actually trying something): Pineapple (Ananas)🍍 and Persimmons🥭!

(please ignore that its a mango i just wanna put little emojis okay)

Starting with the latter, i cut it in veeerry small slices to make sure the fruit has lots of surface contact with the sugar.

Yeah look at that handy work, Im the best slasher slicer at work! 🔪🔪

Now I get as much sugar as I have of persimmon, which is. Lots. Get sugared motherfucker.

In practice, its best to fist get a little coat of that sugar on whatever you're turning into syrup, but i forgor 💀.

Then, i put all that in a jar alternating fruit and sugar. I got unlucky there because while this was my biggest jar I still wasnt able to put the two pieces i picked at the supermarket, only one and half.

Your turn now motherfucker (look the leaves are spiky on the ridges)

It passed the sniff test with a “fucking sweet” at Lidl so its not a surprise to see it all ripe when cutting it.

Just like yesterday at work, which basically made me think “what if…. pineapple cheong” so im really happy of how this experiment is going.

Adding sugar again and voila!

(btw these jars were saved from my excessive consumption of chocolate paste. If you cant reduce, reuse. And if it all fails, ecyce ♻️)

Now im gonna let it rest at room temperature for a few days, away from the light of the sun (easy mode) and then Im gonna check whats next for these. As im writing this the persimmon one is already starting to juice.

Little disclaimer, i found about this recipe thanks to johnnykyunghwo on tiktok. He is a korean cook and has lots on his page, and trying lots of cheong variants as well!
